Spain thrash Croatia 3-0 to open Euro 2024 campaign

Barcelona teenager Lamine Yamal makes history as youngest player to feature at Euros

Spain began their Euro 2024 campaign with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Croatia in Berlin on Saturday.

Barcelona teenager Lamine Yamal became the youngest player to ever feature at the European Championships when he came on as a substitute in the second half.

The 16-year-old winger made history as he replaced Ansu Fati in the 75th minute, becoming the youngest player to ever play in the tournament.

Spain took the lead in the 25th minute through a penalty from Sergio Busquets. The midfielder converted from the spot after Croatia defender Josko Gvardiol had brought down Ferran Torres in the box.

Spain doubled their lead in the 55th minute when Torres scored from close range. The Manchester City forward tapped home after a cross from Jordi Alba.

Spain added a third goal in the 70th minute when Pablo Sarabia scored a stunning free-kick. The Paris Saint-Germain winger curled a shot into the top corner from 25 yards out.

Croatia had a few chances to get back into the game, but they were unable to find a way past Spain goalkeeper Unai Simon.

The win gives Spain a perfect start to their Euro 2024 campaign. They will face Germany in their next match on Tuesday.
